"The WIMFM team looked after us and supported us through what was one of the most scary and difficult times of our lives, when our first pregnancy was facing so much uncertainty.

We felt safe, empowered and educated by a team that showed utmost dedication in what they do. We and had and continue to have complete faith and trust in their care for us. We will forever be grateful and whole heartedly support any initiative that will encourage the growth and further development of one of the most important services in healthcare. From the bottom of our hearts - we thank you, Westmead MFM (and NICU) team."

"From the very beginning, I was cared for immensely.

It all started with the beautiful Morgan at the women’s health clinic, who immediately knew my blood pressure wasn’t sitting right and began monitoring me without hesitation. About a week later, at a routine doctor’s appointment, everything changed. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and gestational diabetes by—quite honestly—the most incredible doctor, Dr Shyam. From that moment on, he took control, ensuring I received the right care, the right monitoring, and the right support. I was admitted to hospital straight away.

Through Dr Shyam, I met Dr Smet. The knowledge, guidance, and protection from these two doctors was evident immediately. No matter how afraid I was, I never once felt unsafe. As my hospital stay continued, my condition wasn’t progressing the way we’d hoped, but I was constantly monitored, fully informed, and gently guided through every step. When my preeclampsia worsened, I was terrified—especially being so early in my pregnancy.

What people don’t realise is the depth of support I received, not only from Dr Smet and Dr Shyam, but also from the wonderful Dr Nayyer and the incredible midwives who stood beside me every day. I was 25 years old, carrying my first baby, with fluid on my lungs and complications that pushed my body to a breaking point. It became far too risky for my baby to remain inside me any longer. When Dr Smet saw just how much fluid was on my lungs, decisive action was taken. Her guidance quite literally saved our lives. Within two hours, I was rushed into an emergency C-section—petrified, unsure, and overwhelmed. I had no idea what I was about to face. Then Dr Shyam walked in. The moment he told my partner and me that he would be there with us during the surgery, my nerves completely settled. That’s how much trust and comfort I had in these doctors. Placing my life—and my baby’s life—in their hands was the best decision I have ever made. And they proved it. They kept me calm. They kept me safe. What could have been the most terrifying experience of my life became something beautiful.

We talked, we laughed, and then my precious boy arrived. It was the most incredible moment I have ever experienced. I can say this with complete certainty: I would relive every single moment again just to see my gorgeous baby, because I know that in the hands of these doctors, we were always going to be okay. My son is now in the NICU, and even there, the care is exceptional—the staff are incredible, and he is being looked after with such love and dedication. I went into hospital scared and uncertain. I came out forever changed—stronger, humbled, and deeply grateful."
