Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service
The Westmead Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service (BIRS) at Westmead Hospital provides specialised rehabilitation for people with traumatic brain injuries. Serving Western Sydney and wider NSW, it offers inpatient care, community rehabilitation, and research programs. As the only brain injury rehab service in WSLHD, BIRS supports patients from coma to community reintegration. Its inpatient program manages complex cases, including those with severe cognitive and behavioral challenges, making it a key referral center for NSW.

Meet the team
Led by Dr Gurka, the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service (BIRS) consists of a multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation specialists, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, neuropsychologists, social workers, and case managers.
Committed to patient-centered care, the team works collaboratively to support recovery and facilitate a smooth transition back into the community, helping patients achieve the best possible quality of life.

How your donation will help
Your donations will fund essential equipment and services for brain injury patients beyond public hospital funding. This includes wheelchairs, electric beds, communication aids, driving assessments, and therapy programs to support recovery and independence.
Thank you for your support.
