Midwifery and Nurses Day

This May, the Westmead Hospital Foundation was proud to join in the global celebrations of International Day of the Midwife (May 5) and International Nurses Day (May 12)—two special opportunities to recognise the tireless dedication, skill, and compassion of the extraordinary healthcare professionals who form the heart of patient care.

Honouring Midwives - May 5

To mark the International Day of the Midwife, staff and supporters gathered in WECC for a morning tea filled with laughter, heartfelt stories, and gratitude. It was a chance to reflect on the critical role midwives play in bringing new life into the world, and supporting mothers and families during one of life’s most profound moments.

The Foundation was honoured to provide green tea, courtesy of our supporter Ito En, and cupcakes to say thank you to our midwives, for their commitment to compassionate, woman-centred care.

Celebrating Nurses - May 12

International Nurses Day brought even more celebration across Westmead Hospital. From wards to specialty units, nurses were recognised for the essential role they play in every corner of the hospital. The Foundation helped support with thank-you flowers and activities during their morning tea where nurses came together for a well-earned break and recognition of their incredible work.

In a special highlight, the Foundation also ran a raffle to win a pair of diamond earrings, generously donated by Novita Diamonds in honour of the occasion. The raffle created quite a buzz among staff, and we’re thrilled to announce the lucky winner has now been selected!
