Advancing Parkinson’s Care Through Global Expertise

A Fellowship in Neuromodulation and Deep Brain Stimulation at Queen Square, London

Driving Innovation in Parkinson’s Treatment

With the support of Westmead Hospital Foundation, Dr Matthew Georgiades is undertaking a 12-month clinical and research fellowship at the internationally renowned National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London.

This fellowship will enable Matthew to develop advanced expertise in neuromodulation and adaptive deep brain stimulation—cutting-edge therapies for Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders. These skills are currently limited in Australia and represent a valuable opportunity to enhance patient care at Westmead.

Bringing World-Class Expertise Back to Westmead

This fellowship opportunity was identified in collaboration with the clinical team to ensure alignment with service priorities and future capability development. Upon completion of the fellowship, Dr Georgiades intends to return to Westmead to apply his advanced skills.

This investment reflects the Foundation’s commitment to supporting initiatives that deliver long-term benefits to patients, strengthen clinical capability, and enhance the quality of care within our hospital.

In his roles across Westmead Hospital and The University of Sydney, he will contribute to strengthening multidisciplinary care, share insights with colleagues, and expand collaborative networks developed during his time at Queen Square—ultimately enhancing outcomes for patients in the local community and beyond.
