International Nurses Week 2026

Westmead Hospital Foundation proudly celebrated International Nurses Week by recognising the extraordinary nurses who care for patients and families across Westmead Hospital every day.

Nurses play a vital role in every patient journey, providing compassion, reassurance, expertise and care during some of life’s most challenging moments. Their dedication and professionalism are at the heart of the exceptional healthcare delivered at Westmead Hospital.

As part of the celebrations, the Westmead Hospital Foundation team distributed appreciation hampers to nursing teams across more than 60 wards throughout the hospital. The initiative was made possible through the generous support of Healthcare Home Loans, who partnered with the Foundation and joined the team in personally delivering the hampers to staff.

The week created many meaningful moments of connection and gratitude as nurses across the hospital were recognised for the incredible work they do each and every day.

Westmead Hospital Foundation General Manager, Dinidu Illangakoon, said International Nurses Week was an important opportunity to acknowledge the commitment and humanity nurses bring to healthcare.

“Our nurses provide care, comfort and hope to patients and families every single day. International Nurses Week is an opportunity to pause and recognise the extraordinary contribution they make not only to Westmead Hospital, but to our broader community,” he said.

“We are also incredibly grateful to Healthcare Home Loans for supporting this initiative and helping us show appreciation to the nursing teams who give so much of themselves in service to others.”
