International Day of the Midwife 2026
Midwives play an essential role in the healthcare journey of thousands of families each year.
The Heart of Healing: Celebrating Human Experience Week at Westmead
Westmead Hospital Foundation proudly joined in celebrating International Day of the Midwife, recognising the extraordinary contribution of the midwives who care for women, babies and families across Western Sydney every single day.
Midwives play an essential role in the healthcare journey of thousands of families each year. From providing compassionate support during pregnancy, to guiding families through birth and postnatal care, their dedication, expertise and kindness leave a lasting impact on the lives of so many in our community.
As part of the celebrations across Westmead Hospital, the Foundation team had the privilege of supporting activities that acknowledged and thanked the hospital’s incredible midwifery workforce.
A particularly special moment during the celebrations was recognising three remarkable midwives who each reached an extraordinary milestone, 50 years of service in midwifery. Together, Margaret Hudson, Lynne Pearson and Catherine Boon represent an incredible 150 years of care, compassion and commitment to mothers and babies.
To dedicate five decades to supporting families through some of life’s most important moments is truly inspiring. Their contribution has touched countless lives and helped shape generations of families across Western Sydney.
At Westmead Hospital Foundation, we are proud to support the people and programs that help make exceptional care possible at Westmead Hospital. Moments like these are an important reminder of the dedication, humanity and compassion shown by healthcare workers every day.
We extend our sincere thanks to all midwives for the extraordinary care they provide to our community.
