The Heart of Healing: Celebrating Human Experience Week at Westmead

Last week, Westmead Hospital Foundation proudly participated in Human Experience Week at Westmead Hospital, joining staff, volunteers, patients, carers and the broader community in recognising the importance of compassion, connection and the human side of healthcare. 

Human Experience Week is an initiative across Western Sydney Local Health District that celebrates the experiences of patients, families, carers and healthcare workers, while highlighting the importance of empathy, kindness and meaningful human connection in healthcare settings. 

Throughout the week, the Foundation hosted two activation tables within the hospital, providing an opportunity to engage with visitors, patients, carers and staff across the Westmead community. 

Thanks to the generous support of Popbox, complimentary popcorn was distributed across the hospital to patients, visitors, carers and staff. The simple gesture created moments of warmth and connection for many people navigating what can often be stressful and emotional circumstances. 

While healthcare is often measured through clinical outcomes and treatment, Human Experience Week serves as a reminder that how care is experienced is equally important. It is reflected in the way people are welcomed, listened to, supported and cared for during vulnerable moments in their lives. 

The week also highlighted the collective efforts of staff, volunteers, community partners and healthcare leaders across Western Sydney Local Health District to continually improve the experiences of those who access and deliver care. 

Westmead Hospital Foundation is proud to support initiatives that contribute to a more compassionate and connected hospital experience for patients, families and healthcare teams.
