$20,000 for Laughter and Joy

Westmead Hospital Foundation is delighted to have received a $20,000 grant through the 2026 Parramatta ClubGRANTS program to support the delivery of the Laughter Care program at Westmead Hospital.

Representatives from the Foundation attended the 2026 Parramatta ClubGRANTS presentation in September, joining local clubs, community organisations and representatives from the City of Parramatta to celebrate the many initiatives being supported across our local community.

The Parramatta ClubGRANTS program brings together participating local clubs and the City of Parramatta to support not-for-profit organisations delivering important community welfare, development and health initiatives across the Parramatta region.

For Westmead Hospital Foundation, this year's funding will help bring something particularly special to patients at Westmead Hospital, laughter, companionship and meaningful human connection.

More than a reason to smile

The Laughter Care program is designed to support older patients through person-centred interactions incorporating humour, conversation, music, play and creative engagement.

Delivered by specially trained Laughter Care Specialists, the program is particularly valuable for older patients who may be experiencing dementia, cognitive decline, loneliness or social isolation, as well as those facing extended stays in hospital.

Working alongside hospital staff, Laughter Care Specialists spend time engaging individually with patients, creating moments of connection that can help reduce feelings of fear, anxiety and isolation while supporting dignity, wellbeing and a more positive hospital experience.

The benefits can extend beyond patients themselves. These interactions can also create meaningful moments for families, carers and hospital staff, bringing warmth and connection into what can otherwise be a challenging time.

Local support making a difference

The $20,000 ClubGRANTS funding will help Westmead Hospital Foundation support the delivery of Laughter Care at Westmead Hospital and bring these moments of joy and connection to patients who can benefit most.

We are incredibly grateful to the Parramatta ClubGRANTS program, the City of Parramatta and participating local clubs for investing in initiatives that make a tangible difference to the health and wellbeing of our community.

At Westmead Hospital Foundation, we believe supporting exceptional healthcare is about more than equipment and medical treatment. It is also about supporting the wellbeing, dignity and experience of patients and their families.

Sometimes, that difference can begin with something as simple and powerful as a smile.
