Bailey's Next Chapter
For many months, Bailey was a familiar and welcome face around Westmead Hospital while receiving care from the dedicated team in the Adolescent Unit. During his time at the hospital, Bailey built strong connections with staff, patients and volunteers across the campus.
Almost every day, Bailey would stop by the Westmead Hospital Foundation office for a quick chat, sharing updates about his day, where he’d been around the hospital, and what he’d been up to. His positive spirit quickly made him a friend to many — from the florists and pharmacists to the security team, who even gave him an honorary role when he joined them on their rounds.
One of the highlights of Bailey’s stay was spending time with the hospital’s therapy dogs. After long days on the ward, their visits were always something he looked forward to. For Bailey, the dogs provided a welcome break from the day-to-day routine of hospital life and a moment of comfort and joy during his recovery.
Before his farewell party, Bailey even found the strength to head to the gym with his carer and trainer, celebrating the progress he’s made in his recovery.
Now, Bailey has moved into a care home where he’s enjoying greater independence and continuing his recovery. While he may no longer be walking the hospital corridors each day, he will always be remembered as a bright presence in the Westmead community.
